I have recently bought a 55 plate 1.9 TDCI Zafira Design annd when you put your foot down and let it off it whistles like it has a hole in the turbo pipe or something took it back to the garage i bought it off and they said that this was normal as they are fitted with a Dump valve type thing that makes it make this noise just wondered if this was true?

yea that is true any turbo will have that it is because the turbo will wind up as you accelerate then when you back off the throttle it will release the pressure

nothing to worry about

Hi mate i have the exact same car and year, no whistles for me, in fact you cant even hear turbo whine up. Plus they don't come with dump valves, they are fitted by boy racers mostly, plus diesel engines have to have a special dump valve kit as diesels don't have vacuum at manifold.
if i was you check all rubber pipes that come from turbo to manifold that get under large pressure from turbo and check all clips and clamps, maybe one is loose.
