Just put in blue sidelights but a few of my friends have told me they are illegal, so I checked this out and found something saying as long as they are not red or any flashing light then its ok... is this true???
Hi, I am a MOT tester at a dealership and would fail a car with blue sidelights. The law states only white lights are permitted for the headlamps and amber colour for the indicators, no other colours are allowed. If you was unlucky enough to be caught by the police and they were really funny about it they could take you to court for inpersonating a police officer (or car) due to blue lights.
As comedygimp stated blue is a definate no no. The police do not take blue lights anywhere on a private car lightly and you WILL get done. You would be lucky to get just a £60 ticket & 3 points. I know as it happened to me & a couple of my mates also.
The thing is most blue side lights are actually white when they are on. Ive got blue sidelights and they look blue when they are off but are white when they are on. I wonder what the score is here as im sure it says it must not emit blue light!
Anything that gives off a blue light is illegal, if yours are blue off and pure white when on then you have no issue, but if they have a blue tinge or caste when on as alot do then you are risking it, is it worth it for "fashion" my friend, for the sake of other motorists thinking about any blue lights approaching is it not sensible to obey the law and respect other motorists as well, i have personally slowed and moved over to the side to try not to impeed what i for a moment thought was an emergency vehicle only to find it was a "chav mobile" coming up behind at night with blue lights at the front, i think we all appreciate that some HID headlights can emit a blue tinge depending on its K range, apart from these circumstamces fine them, sieze the vehicle and crush it and ban any idiot from our roads whom think that laws do not apply to them and their mates. Folks will soon learn then. sorry guys rant over.
