Hi there, I already feel your pain. Not on my Zaffy though, yet.

I had this on my Mondeo but the theory goes the same. Blue smoke indicates your motor is burning oil. You might notice that your oil consumption has gone up a touch or a lot. Reckon your problem equates to one if not all three potential issues.

1. Oil leaking past your head gasket into the piston chambers. Expensive to fix.
2. Oil leaking past your valve stems into the piston chambers. Expensive to fix.
3. Oil leaking past your piston rings into the piston chambers. Expensive to fix.

Either way it looks like an expensive job. If you do all of the above DIY style it'll cost you in the region of about £400. Leave a garage to do it and triple that sum. Recon engines can be found for around £600 or you can probably haggle a scrappy down to £250. Could also be found on ebay. A local garage may be able to fit for around £600 or a knowledgeable friend for a crate of beer.

Or you can keep topping the oil up and add some oil treatments (links below) and prey to god it makes it a) to the next M.O.T and b) pass the M.O.T. The emissions probably wont pass if you're burning oil.

Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of good news but give the links above a go and see how you get on.

Sorry I forgot to ask if you bought it from a dealer or private? If the dealer gave you any warranty, use it.

Good luck.

i, thanks for the information, it confirmed my worst fear. I bought it private so no come back but im having a new engine put in. Yes its going to cost £1100
but the rest of the car is in excellent condition, so with the 5 year warranty on the engine i should have worry free motoring after this, fingers crossed and once again thanks for your help

The warranties are pretty good for a recon. Good job really as an investment of £1100 is pretty big. Good luck with the new engine.
