Hi all.
Am I right in thinking that it is a common fault for a 1.8 (2002) Zafira's ECU to fail or cause problems. The engine is running really poorly with faults showing MAF, Mis-firing on No1 and No4 cylinder and various other faults through ECU reading.

I have read that due to the position of where it is mouted (side of block) it gets quite hot and there or a lot of 1.8s out there with failing ECUs.

Anybody able to enlighten me...........??????

Thanks in advance

good morning,

i've recently had similar problem with my zaffy - initially running very poorly (weak performance) when cold, and also intermittent limp home mode and misfire.

Initially there were no fault codes logged, i carried out continuity tests on the wiring from each sensor back to the ecu multiplug (all ok)

had a stab in the dark - replaced the mass airflow sensor, which cured the lack of performance.
always use bosch or genuine mass airflow sensor - cheap ones can cause all sorts of problems!

checked the coil pack, which had burn marks next to cylinder 2 plug connector. replaced coil pack too.

p.s. mines a 2003 zafira 1.8 comfort.
