Hi guys,

please newbie here, can anyone help? We are stranded in Dijon in France with the rear left brake caliper stuck. Slight smoke, repair truck, the full monty. We have moved on in our trip, but the garage (Renault would you believe it) now has it and is going to estimate tomorrow.

Can anyone help me with an idea what a UK garage would charge for a repair like that? Wheel off, brake caliper piston replaced and calibrated and wheel back on? Parts, labour? We have no idea and would appreciate any help.

They will probly try and put a new caliper on and new pads for both sides at the same time as you have cooked the pads.
So the price of one new caliper and pad set,the labour of fitting and sundries like brake fluid ect,i would guess at £300,ask them to just free up the piston's,it's easy enough,if they remove the pads and pump the brake pedal to push the pistons out and apply brake fluid to the piston surface under the dust cover and push the piston back in and pump it back outand back in a few times, this can help.
Unless the rear pads were worn right down already even before you went awayand now the piston's have rusted solid.
