Would like some help trying to diagnose a whirring noise I have coming from, what seems to be, the n/s/f of my 2011 1.7 cdti with 90k on the clock.

I've read a lot of posts about noises coming from this area, but haven't yet found a conclusive answer.

Symptom:
Constant whirring/drone when speed reaches about 25mph+. Pitch/tone of nose changes with speed.
Noise is independent of gears. Occurs whether in gear, out of gear coasting, clutch to the floor, clutch up - no difference.
Noise doesn't change when cornering.
Noise doesn't disappear when braking.
No change under acceleration vs. deceleration.
No clicking when cornering.
No jump/wobble in gear stick when switching from acceleration to deceleration in any gear.

Background:
I had four new tyres fitted just before Christmas (in anticipation of heading up north to see the folks - never happened :)). Pottered around locally without motorway cruising speed until mid-January. When I reached a dual carriageway I noticed a bit of a vibration through the wheel and slight whirring. Left it 5 months since my daily commute doesn't get me to motorway speed - noise got a little louder, but nothing the radio volume couldn't solve. Changed tyre pressures and switched tyres front-back last weekend, vibration disappeared, so I suspect poorly balanced after tyres fitted. Noise remains.

Whilst changing the tyres I gave the n/s/f a spin and wobble. No obvious wobble from the hub, but did feel a bit gravely - possibly early stage wheel bearing failure?. Switching between clockwise/anticlockwise rotation does sound like juggling a bag of marbles, but unsure is this is usual CVJ play.

What I've done:
Ruled out tyre noise through changing air pressure/location
Checked gearbox oil level - all good.
Changed n/s/f wheel bearing - no change in noise.

Question:
Where could this noise be coming from?
I've had a 2016 Trafic in the past which had classic 5th-6th gear whine - this sounds nothing like that.
I now suspect n/s drive shaft inner CVJ, or, differential bearing which holds the driveshaft. I'l be honest and say I've never opened up a gearbox/diff, so what sits beyond the oil seal the drive shaft passes through is a mystery to me.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks.
