<DIV =QuestionText>Vauxhall Zafira (2003) - Oil Light Keeps Coming on When Engine is Idling,
Hello
Can someone please let me know where the oil pressure switch is located on a Vauxhall Zafira (2003), 2 litre, DTI?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there... You don't say how many miles your engines done or what condition its in? If you regularly get the oil light coming on and going off as soon as you put some revs on, it would seem that the switch, is working OK. Is your oil filter ok oil (has it been changed recently?) or are you using too thin an oil for your engine? I had a similar situation because I had 10/40 oil put in by mistake once and mine is a high mileage engine. As soon as I changed it back to 20/50 diesel oil it was OK again.... Robin

Hello Robin, Thanks for the post. The engine hasdone90000, I have very recentlychangedthe oil and filter. I have checked the oil bottle and it is Partsynthetic10W/40 asrecommendedby Halfords.I willdefinitely take your advice and change the oil to a 20/50dieseloil.Thanks again.Terry

Hi Terry. One further option you could try would be to run some flushing oil through the system first to remove any gunk and sludge that might be causing a problem. I am assuming that your oil pump is in good shape. I suspect the best you will get from a mass outlet like Halfords will be a 15/40 or possibly a 15/50 diesel oil. I bought mine from a little independant Motor Factor in SE London when I was visiting family! Incidentally your original question - where is the switch- the Haynes manual for the diesel cars only lists the switch for the 1.7engine, which it says is three quarters the way along the block on the right hand side of the engine. I'm not certain about the 2.0 DTi but it can't be hard to find. You're looking for a small metal lump, possibly round, screwed into the side of the engine with an electrical connection off its back end! Anyway, best of luck with getting your oil light to stay off... Robin

Oh and one more thing I forgot to mention.. I have known cases where it has been necessary to take the sump off and clean out the oil pick-up strainer which hangs down into the sump area. That's only if flushing oil doesn't do its work properly. The pick-up can become clogged with sludge if previous owners have been putting in cheap mineral oils which form sludge more easily under rural driving conditions. I'd definately try a good go with flushing oil first though! It's a lot less hassle.... Robin.

Evening all,<div abp="855">Hoping someone can help please?<div abp="856">This post pretty much matches what's happening with my car, but not quite...<div abp="857">I have a 2005 Zafira TDi on which the oil pressure light (red) keeps coming on while the car is in idle/no revs. As soon as I put any revs through the engine the light disappears. The light doesn't ALWAYS come on when idling but does most of the time. This has been happening for the lastfew days.<div abp="857">I noticed a small oil patch under my car yesterday somewhere I don't normally park and, upon looking where I park at home I noticed a patch there too! Not good! The engine oil level had gone down yesterday (I checked a couple of days ago before a long trip) so I have topped it up.<div abp="857">The car has done 110,000 miles and has been fully serviced throughout. I last had it serviced at around 100,000 milesand no problem was noticed then.<div abp="857">I've noted a few of the suggestions above but most are based on the car not leaking oil, which mine is. Can anyone shed any light on how serious a problem this might be for mine...?<div abp="857">Thanks in advance,

Hi there Thomas, and welcome to the Owner's forum,. I hope you find it useful. It sounds as though you might have got the oil leak after the last service... Possibly the oil filter housing needs tightening up as it will have been taken off for the oil and filter change... or at least it should have been. As far as your red oil light on tickover goes, it could be that at over 100000 miles your engine might just be getting a bit loose on all the essential bearings. This is quite natural with time. The light is driven from an On/Off switch which senses the oil pressure which is obviously low at tickover. Could be a fault with a too sensitive switch, or you could try filling the engine with a slightly thicker grade of oil which would then be able to maintain a very slightly higher pressure overall. That would also make the engine less noisy. As long as the light does go out when the engine is revving normally, and doesn't come on when the engine is idling cold, you need not be too worried, but just try changing the oil grade. Cheers... Guys oil light on is a warning</font> and needs to be looked at.Do you have opcom as this will tell you the state of play with the oil pressure & (i guess) will let you know if the switch is iffy.Robin the days of engine flush are long gone (IMO) and can do more harm than good as modern oils are full of detergent and well able to cope with sludge (have not seen this since the BMC A series)Changing the switch/checking/cleaning the connector is a must & by far the cheapest first step.If you do not have opcom then spend some money by having your vehicle checked on Tec 2 at a dealer to determine if the oil pressure is normal or not.Say where you are in the world as a member may well live close by who has opcom and can assist.Oil leak in itself is rarely an issue in itself, but of course needs to be dealt with to find out where its leaking from & why.</font>
